Slí (Camino) of St. Colmcille

Saint Colmcille, also known as Columba, was born in Gartan, Co Donegal, Ireland in 521 A.D. He was a scribe, a poet and after his ordination, he founded several Monasteries in a mission to spread Christianity in Ireland and later in Scotland.

This pilgrimage route along the Wild Atlantic Way starts in Glencolmcille, South West of Donegal and finishes with a tour of the Walls of Derry City and the site of his first Monastery. Each leg of the Slí Colmcille can vary in distance, depending on the group's preferences and ability, average distances are between 8-28km per day. Most of these trails are on incredibly scenic back roads, bog roads, beaches, river walks and forest trails.

St. Colmcille is one of Ireland's 3 Patron Saints, along with St Patrick and St Brigid.
